Welcome!

I am a Music Education graduate from Arkansas Tech University. My primary instrument is the flute, but I have received formal training and am continuously developing my skills in all instruments. Throughout my time in music, I’ve had the opportunity to serve in multiple leadership roles and work with colleagues, educators, and students across the nation.

Below are some example lessons that I have created and taught throughout the past few years as well as other teaching materials I’ve developed. If you wish to discuss anything related to music pedagogy or my educational experiences please feel free to email me at meeka.siv.smith@gmail.com

Teaching Guide

During my 2nd year of Teaching Methods, we were asked to prepare a teaching guide over a specific piece of young wind band literature. This guide is the product of that project.

District Research Project

Another project we were assigned was to interview directors throughout a specific ASBOA region and inquire more about their program. I was assigned region V. For this project, we were required to interview only 2 districts, but I interviewed a total of 7. I was only able to confirm 2 interviews before the project deadline (which is what you will see in the document) , but continued interviewing these schools long after the project was complete.

Sensitive information has been censored, including the names of the directors at the time of the project.

Music History/Theory

Lessons

As part of my Internship I requirements, I was grouped with 3 other music education majors and asked to prepare a full unit over a topic relating to our content area. My colleagues and I formulated a music theory unit that highlighted several key areas for students. In this document are presentations and handouts I prepared.

While student teaching at Bentonville High School, I taught several units with the General Music Theory class. Mr. Tim Hendrix was working with the students on a music theory segment and I completed a unit over both the Baroque Era and Classical Era. This document contains both of the presentations I used in PDF format, but does not contain the exciting class period where we learned Baroque Dance together!

 Starfleet Academy

Marching Program Materials

While taking Marching Band Techniques at ATU, I prepared a variety of different materials that I would utilize with an imaginary marching program. Which, is how Starfleet Academy came to be. These documents include, a Marching Fundamentals Guide as well as a Marching Season Announcement presentation for parents and students. I’d like to also include that my opinion on some of these pedagogical points has changed, but I’m still proud of the work I produced for the Starfleet Academy.
